TERRIBLE GAS MILLAGE!!!! and other dilemas! HELP!

Well describing the way how you have bad gas milage and how the whole back side of your car is black, it means that your engine is running way too rich which means, there is too much fuel going into the engine that is needed so you are going to have to adjust your fuel pressure to lean it out a bit and hence better your gas milage.

OR:

Your timing could be retarded about a few degress(one tooth back) which could explain the loss of low end(low RPM) power but better higher RPM power. I would first check your timing, then see how your fuel pressure is.

Hmmm...yea off the bat i'm gonna say your timing as well. Other than checking to your timing marks, look at your distrubtor. There are 3 bolts that hold it in, if you losin those bolts you'll notice you can now rotate the distrubtor forward or backward by just a little bit with the allowed slots. The distrubtor should be set in the middle, in other words it shouldn't be cranked the whole way in either direction. Also you might need or want a new O2 sensor that always helps. As for the tranny, see if you can get someone to help you drain and put in new auto transmission oil, its kinda like changin you oil minus the filter hehe.

To shove some more air down the engines throat if you want, goto the little black box atop your engine that says "pgm-fi" on it and remove the 4 screws and take the lid off. You'll see a little metal wall (or baffel) held in my a single small screw. Take the screw out, remove the wall, put the lid back on and screw it all down...thats the DX 1 hp mod hehe , just gives you a little more air from the intake thats all.

Thanks! Sounds so simple to do (always looking for anything to improve the 1.5 L engine). You mean the intake manifold? Why didn't anyone mention this before..... I would have done it last year when I got an intake! It should be listed in the tips/mods section of the website.

I'll try to find that metal piece tomorrow.... I don't see it in the service manual? Is there anymore explanation, or should it be very obvious once I take the cover off?

Hey guys, i have a 88 Civic DX Auto, and i got a bunch of questions i need answered! First off i will describe my car and the mods i have so it will be easier for you guys to interpret.

1988 Civic DX Hatch
Automatic Tranny
83,000 Original Miles
OBX Racing Intake
Focuz Axle-Back Exhaust
and thats about it....

Now, for my dilemas!
1) I gat only 15 miles per gallon!!!!!! AHH!!!! I dont know why, i even tried puttin in premium gas, it doesnt help! I even used motor flush and chainged my oil to see if it helped, and no help, even upgraded to a Fram 2X Gaurd Oil Filter. Also, my rear bumper and actually the whole car is BLACK from the exhaust! i have black dots all over the back of the car its disgusting! HELP!

2) Everytime i give a lot of gas from rest, my car kind of struggles for a little but at higher RPM's (even though i dont have a tach) it is fine, but i have a serious loss in power. HELP!

3) When I have my car in Reverse, then i put my car in drive, or netutral, or whatever, it makes this HUGE Crunching noise that is so loud, it seams like my engine id going to fall out of my car! HELP!

4) Where do i get GTO Headlight covers for my car? i want to make some custom headlight covers.

Thanks i am going to check out the timing, since i dont know how to do it, i will take it to my mechanic, or can someone explain how to do it because that would save me some money, and as for the 1 hp gain on the 1.5 enging, i am going to check that out. Thanks for your help, and if anyone else has any other ideas on how to improve the 1.5 Engine, or any more answers to my questions, please leave a post, it would be greatly apreciated. thanks!
